Valheim Player Editor
Open a character file (.fch) to edit inventory, skills, appearance and knowledge. Runs in your browser, nothing gets uploaded.
Drop your file here
or
With the folder, the editor saves directly and creates a backup automatically first.
Edit a world
Change world modifiers, the name, defeated bosses and the contents of every chest, cart and ship (Valheim 1.0, world folder).
Choose the worlds folder. Saving writes directly back and first creates a backup “World_backup_…” that Valheim shows under “Manage saves”. Without folder access you get a ZIP file.
Choose the world's folder. The edited world is downloaded as a ZIP. Extract it into your worlds folder.
Local worlds (Windows):
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\worlds_local
Steam Cloud worlds (Windows):
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<ID>\892970\remote\worlds
Quit Valheim before saving. Steam uploads changed cloud worlds the next time you start the game. If Steam reports a conflict, choose the local files.
Where are my characters?
Local characters (Windows):
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters_local
Steam Cloud characters (Windows):
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters
Before editing
- Quit Valheim completely, otherwise the game overwrites your changes.
- Make a backup copy of the .fch file.
- The file is processed locally in your browser only and is never uploaded.
Valheim save editor in the browser
Viking Editor is a player and world editor for Valheim. It runs in your browser, so there's nothing to install, and your save files never leave your PC.
What you can edit
Inventory
Drag items around, stack them or add new ones from a list of 900+ items. You can set amount, quality, durability and variant, and take weapons and armor past the normal max quality as if upgraded at the Forge of Potential.
Skills
Set any skill to a level between 0 and 100, one at a time or all at once.
Character and knowledge
Change name, appearance, Forsaken power and active food. Unlock recipes, build pieces, crafting station levels, biomes, trophies and lore.
Worlds
Change world modifiers, the world name and defeated bosses, and edit what's in every chest, cart and ship. Works with worlds saved in the Valheim 1.0 folder format.
Saving
Only the parts you changed get rewritten, the rest of the file stays as it was. When you save into the folder, a backup is made first.
Privacy
No account and no upload. Your files never leave your computer.
How to use it
- 1Close Valheim. Then open your character folder or drop the .fch file into the box above.
- 2Make your changes. Ctrl+Z undoes them.
- 3Save. In folder mode the file is written back directly, otherwise download it and replace the old file.
FAQ
Do I need to download or install anything?
No. It runs in any current browser on Windows, Linux, macOS and the Steam Deck.
Is my character file uploaded?
No. The file is read and written in your browser. There is no server that receives or stores it.
Where do I find my Valheim character file?
On Windows, local characters are in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\characters_local and Steam Cloud characters in the characters folder next to it. On Linux and the Steam Deck, look in ~/.config/unity3d/IronGate/Valheim/.
Which Valheim version is supported?
Valheim 1.0 up to the current version 1.0.21 (profile versions 46 and 47). Files are saved in the format they were opened in. Unknown versions are detected and not opened, so nothing gets lost.
Can I break my character?
The editor checks on load that it can write the file back without losing anything, and reads the new file back before saving. Keep a backup anyway. Folder mode makes one for you.
Does it work with Steam Cloud characters?
Yes. Edit the file in the characters folder while Valheim is closed. If Steam reports a sync conflict afterwards, choose the local version.
Can I edit my world too?
Yes. Under “Edit a world”, open your worlds folder (worlds_local, or userdata\<ID>\892970\remote\worlds for Steam Cloud worlds). You can change world modifiers, the name, defeated bosses and every chest. Before saving, the editor makes a backup that Valheim shows under “Manage saves”.
Which browsers are supported?
Any current browser can open files and download the edited file. Saving directly to the character folder works in Chrome and Edge on desktop.
Is the editor free?
Yes. Ads and donations cover the costs.
Can I use edited characters on servers?
Depends on the server. Some don't allow edited characters, so use it at your own risk.
